The English beginner guide

PLAZA publishes a beginner guide in English (PLAZA). Two points worth knowing:

  • Prize exchange and balances are valid on the day of purchase, so finish up before you leave.
  • Members can save balls for a later visit. Short-stay visitors won’t usually need this; see member cards and saving balls.

The company

PLAZA is run by Sensho Bussan (株式会社宣翔物産), founded in Fukuoka in 1972; its image characters are the Fukuoka comedy duo Hakata Hanamaru Daikichi (Sensho Bussan). PLAZA marked its 54th anniversary on 1 September 2026 (PLAZA).

Korean visitors

Korea is by far Fukuoka’s biggest source of overseas visitors: 53.7% of the city’s foreign entrants in 2025 (Fukuoka City tourism statistics). PLAZA Hakata has been part of that story for years:

  • In 2019, the Fukuoka business site NetIB-News noted that Korean-language guidance stands out at PLAZA Hakata (NetIB-News, 6 Sep 2019).
  • In December 2023 it reported that many Korean visitors come to play at PLAZA Hakata, just by the Chikushi exit of JR Hakata Station (NetIB-News, 27 Dec 2023).
  • The industry blog Pachinko Nippo named PLAZA Hakata and Tamaya Honten as Japan’s clearest inbound successes. It noted that PLAZA Hakata uses Korean on its P-World listing (Pachinko Nippo, 24 Dec 2025).
